Foreign Language

Earning a degree in a foreign language is much more than just reading and speaking a language that is not your native tongue. It includes understanding the cultures and how and why different countries communicate the way they do. In today's global economy, the ability to communicate in a foreign language is a highly sought-after skill that can give you a competitive edge in your job search. Expertise in a foreign language can help you in the following careers:

  • Translator/interpreter
  • Communications
  • Travel services
  • Government
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation
  • Teacher
  • Editor/writer
  • Information services
  • Hotel and entertainment
  • Non-profit organizations

MCC offers a range of foreign language electives, including Arabic, Chinese, French, German and Spanish. Classes include the mastery of reading, writing and speaking and some focus on targeting specific occupations, literature and culture.

Our foreign language program is built around the Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree. This degree gives you a solid background in general education courses that can transfer to a four-year institution. It also allows 17 hours of elective courses that let you focus on your interests.

For students with previous language study, please contact one of the instructors listed above for more information about placement test options.
