Steps to set up your Microsoft password if you’re a new student

  1.  Get your password
    1. Contact the info center student tech support at 816.604.1000  option 1 to receive a temporary passcode.
  2. Once a temporary password is retrieved
    1. Use the temporary passcode, to connect through Microsoft single sign-on.
    2.  You will be prompted for more information to register an authentication method for Multi Factor Authentication and Self-Service Password Reset.
    3. Once you register an authentication method, you will be prompted to set a new password.

Steps to change your Microsoft password

  1. On Microsoft’s login landing page, click “Forgot my password”. (remove other text on this line, including “OR go directly to aka.ms/sspr”)
  2. Fill in your MCC username and the security characters shown on the page. Click NEXT.
  3. Choose the “I forgot my password” option. Click NEXT.
    • If you believe you know your password, but have been locked out due to too many sign-in attempts, choose the “I know my password, but I still can’t get in” option. It will prompt you to use one of the verification methods you set in your initial “new student” setup.
  4. You may have many authentication methods set up, but MCC only allows the following to be used during a password reset/recovery. Options will be presented to you based on your initial account setup:
    • Authentication app (Microsoft, DUO, Google, etc.)
    • Text message
    • Phone call
    • Personal Email (this method only works for password reset, not for logging in)
  5. Follow authentication instructions after choosing a method.
    • Once prompted to “choose a new password”, enter a new password. DO NOT USE previously used passwords or passwords associated with other personal accounts. Click FINISH.
    • The page will refresh and prompt you to login with the new password. Within 3-5 minutes the new password will be available for campus computers and MCC-Wireless login.
  6. Wait up to 30 minutes to give your new password time to sync between all other systems.
  7. Please try to login to email, Canvas, or other MCC systems again.
