Federal Aid

Each year, MCC helps students receive millions of dollars from the federal government. The following grants use the FAFSA to determine need. They do not have to be paid back as long as you stay in school and maintain satisfactory progress.

Pell grant

Award: 2023-2024 annual range is $811 to $7395. Need-based program.

For students who have not earned a bachelor's or graduate degree. Students must submit a FAFSA and meet the other general eligibility requirements. Award amount is based on your enrollment status, Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and Pell Grant Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU).

Learn how your Pell Grant LEU is calculated and see your LEU percentage by accessing government websites..

Eligibility to receive a Federal Pell Grant is limited to twelve (12) semesters (or its equivalent). This provision applies to all Federal Pell Grant eligible students effective with the 2012-2013 award year. The duration of eligibility will include all years of the student's receipt of Federal Pell Grant funding.

Supplemental educational opportunity grant (SEOG)

Award: Typical amount is $300 per semester. Need-based program.

For Pell Grant recipients who demonstrate exceptional financial need. The number of recipients depends on availability of funds. Priority is given to students with a zero (0) EFC.

Other federal aid sources

Federal direct loans

A loan is money you borrow and must pay back. Low-interest loans are available through the William D. Ford Direct Loan Program. Amounts vary depending on the type of loan.

Federal work study

Federal Work Study (FWS) lets you work part-time and earn at least minimum wage to help pay for your education expenses. There is no minimum or maximum amount allowed, except that you cannot receive more than your financial need.

Veterans benefits

Various types of benefits are available to veterans and their families from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Visit our veterans web page for the steps to apply and have your benefits certified.

MCC also offers other assistance to veterans, those serving on active duty and members of the guard or reserve. See our military services web pages to learn more.
