Veterinary Technology

Since 1973, MCC has been providing quality education at an affordable price for the veterinary profession and animal health industry.

Our students have a passion to work with animals as a valued member of a veterinary team. If you would like a career working with animals, we offer veterinary technician, veterinary assistant, and veterinary receptionist classes at our MCC-Maple Woods campus, pre-veterinary prerequisites at all MCC campuses, and practice management courses at all MCC campuses and online.

What is the difference between a Veterinary Assistant and a Veterinary Technician?

Both careers work with animals in the veterinary field. The difference is the education level, level of responsibility, salaries and the skills that they can legally perform.

A veterinary assistant is on-the-job trained or has completed a veterinary assistant certificate program.

A veterinary technician has a degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program, passed the National Veterinary Technician Exam, and passed the state board exam. To be called a veterinary technician, one must have a veterinary technician registration.

Adopt a Pet program

The MCC veterinary technology program receives dogs and cats from regional animal shelters each semester.

The program veterinary medical team and the veterinary technician students work throughout the semester to ensure the dogs and cats are healthy, socialized and ready for a loving family to adopt them.
