The Professional Nursing Program is a selective admission program. Applicants must meet all of the following requirements to qualify for admission. Important deadlines below includes students with degrees and previous college course work. If you are an LPN, please review the LPN-ADN Bridge nursing requirements checklist.

- Fill out the general MCC application
- Complete the steps to apply to the LPN-ADN Bridge Nurse program during open application periods.

Send official college and university transcripts from all previous institutions to the Metropolitan Community College, Data Center
If classes were completed at MCC, an MCC transcript is not required.

Applicants must submit current (less than 3 years old) Accuplacer scores, take the Accuplacer survey, or submit ACT/SAT placement score at the time of application completion and submission or have completed the required courses.
Applicants have two attempts (within the last 3 years) to meet the required score.
Failure to meet the required score/s on the second attempt, or to complete the required courses prior to applying with result in disqualification.

If you have completed or tested out of English as a Second Language (ESL), you are expected to take and complete Read 100 with at least a “C” letter grade or scored 110 on the ESL reading section of ACCUPLACER test (less than three years old).

Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is accepted for admission into the nursing program. See scale below to view grade for prerequisite GPA for AP, IB and CLEP credit:

The ATI TEAS exam must be taken by the deadline and a minimum total adjusted
score of 58.7% must be obtained on either a first or second attempt in a calendar year (January - December).Only ATI transcripts are accepted and must be the current version of the Teas. No screenshots are allowed.
Note: Failure to meet the required score on the second attempt will make you ineligible to be considered for the program during the calendar year when you tested. For study materials and register visit atitesting.com.
Steps to register online take the TEAS test.
- Go to atitesting.com and create an account if you do not already have one.
- Once you’ve logged in to your account, click on the “online store” option at the very top of the page. To the far left of the next page you will see "Register for..." and click on the word "TEAS."
- Scroll to the bottom of the next page and select one of the two options: TEAS Online or In-Person.
- Note: MCC-Penn Valley may offer the exam remotely or in person, so please check both options for availability.

- testing days are Monday through Friday
- Payment of $120 is required upon registration
- Remote testing (take online): you must register 48 hours in advance of your desired test date.
- In-Person: you must register 24 hours in advance of your desired test date.

Ranking points
All applicants will be selected based on ranking points. A maximum of ten (10) possible
ranking points can
be obtained. Here is the example:
- Prerequisite GPA: Up to a maximum of four (4) points based on prerequisite courses.
- BIOL 208 (Microbiology): Three (3) points for completed with a grade letter of “A” will be awarded. Two (2) points for completed with a grade letter of “B” will be awarded. One (1) point for completed with a grade letter of “C” will be awarded.
- CNA or MA Certification (or equivalent): One (1) point for students who hold a current CNA or MA Certification will be awarded.
- Note: Expired CNA/MA Certification will not be awarded the extra point.
- ATI TEAS exam scores: Two (2) points for scores in the range from 90.7% and higher. One (1)
point for scores in the range from 78% to 90.6%.
Application process
The following four (4) steps must be completed:
- Applicants must apply with the application provided on our Apply to the program webpage.
- Attach all ATI TEAS scores along with the application before submitting.
- Attach a copy of your current CNA/MA Certification along with the application before submitting.
- Send completed paper copy of application, along with all the other items requested to: rn.applications@mcckc.edu.
Admission criteria to the program are subject to change without notice. If changes are made to the admission criteria, the applicant will need to meet all requirements that are in effect at the time of application. Successful completion of the requirements necessary for admission to the program does not guarantee acceptance to the program.
Automatic disqualification
The following will result in the application being removed from the applicant pool (no exceptions):
- Not meeting the required ability to pass a drug screen once admitted to the Program.
- Not meeting the required ability to pass a background check screening once admitted to the Program.
- Previous dismissal from MCC’s professional nursing program.
- Not meeting the Accuplacer score requirement.
- Not meeting the required Accuplacer scores on the second attempt and/or not completing
the required math,
writing, or reading course(s) with a grade letter of “C” or higher. - Not meeting the required ATI TEAS exam score on the second attempt in a calendar year.
- Not attaching all ATI TEAS exam scores and/or not showing all attempts.
- Not meeting the minimum 3.0 GPA from CHEM 105, BIOL 109 or BIOL 110 & BIOL 210, and PSYC 140.
- Science prerequisites (CHEM 105, BIOL 109, or BIOL 110 & BIOL 210) older than 6 (six) years by the application deadline.
- Three (3) or more graded attempts in all prerequisites (CHEM 105, BIOL 109, or BIOL 110 & BIOL 210, and PSYC 140) within a six (6) year period.
- Not submitting official transcripts from all institutions where you have earned college credits by the deadline.
Program acceptance
Once accepted into the nursing program, students will attend two (2) mandatory meeting(s) to discuss the following next steps and the required information below:
- Background check. A background check that is returned as flagged will result in immediate grounds for dismissal.
- Health records
- Clinical Student and/or mCE enrollment for document repository
- Immunizations for: chicken pox, measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, influenza, hepatitis B (waiver accepted for Hepatitis B immunization)
- Recent photo on file
- CPR training (AHA & ARC Approved)
- Family Care Safety Registry (background check)
- Drug screen to be done at the site required by MCC. A positive screen will result in automatic dismissal from the program. A positive (+) diluent will result in a repeat screening at the expense of the student.
- Reliable transportation: Assignments to clinical sites are done on a random basis. Many sites are not accessible by public transportation. Note: Clinical sites are within the 60-mile radius of MCC-Penn Valley.
- Work schedule that is flexible to accommodate class and clinical requirements. Note: Clinical schedules are not available until close to the start of the semester. Clinical schedules are subject to change.
- MCC requires a plan for payment of program costs on the day of enrollment.
