What do Practical Nurses Do?

LPNs have a wide range of duties, including:

  • Record client medical histories and symptoms
  • Help perform diagnostic tests and analyze results
  • Consult with physicians and many other healthcare team members
  • Start and manage IV therapies
  • Administer treatments and medications in various forms
  • Help with client follow-up and rehabilitation
  • Show how to self-administer medication
  • Teach clients and families how to manage illness or injury
  • Educate the public on warning signs and symptoms of disease
  • Provide general health screening or immunization clinics, blood drives and public seminars
  • Provide support to patients and family members
  • Provide direction patient care techs and nursing aids.
  • Work under the supervision of the licensed healthcare provider

In one year you will gain quick entry into the nursing field from an accredited practical nursing program and you'll receive hands-on experience and excellent instruction in our state-of-the-art Health Science Institute.


Licensure Information

Upon successful completion of the Practical Nursing program, graduates are eligible to apply for and take the NCLEX-PN examination. However, passing the exam and obtaining licensure is not guaranteed and is subject to meeting all regulatory and licensing requirements set by the respective state board of nursing. MCC Practical Nursing is approved by the Missouri State Board of Nursing and designed to prepare students for the NCLEX examination, which is required for nursing licensure and employment in Missouri and Kansas. Students intending to work in other states should verify licensing and certification requirements with the appropriate state board and the National Council of State Boards of Nursing at https://www.nursecompact.com/
