Class formats
Before registering, consider whether you need to attend on campus, join online meetings at scheduled times, or complete coursework online on your own schedule. Some classes combine these approaches. The descriptions below explain the modes of instruction you’ll see when registering.
| Mode of Instruction | What this Means to You |
|---|---|
In Person |
Attend class in person on campus on the days and at the times listed in class schedule. This format may be a good fit if you prefer learning face-to-face with your instructor and classmates. |
Internet |
Complete coursework online through Canvas and meet participation and assignment deadlines. Regular live class meetings are not scheduled. You need a computer with internet access that can run the tools required for your class. Some exams may be proctored, meaning someone monitors you while you take the exam. These exams may require a webcam and microphone. You can plan your coursework around your schedule while meeting weekly participation requirements and your instructor’s deadlines. |
Video Conferencing |
Attend class live online through a video call on the days and at the times listed in the class schedule. You do not need to travel to campus for these meetings. You need a computer with internet access that can run the tools required for your class. |
Hybrid |
A course that combines in person and online learning. You will attend class in person on campus on the days and at the times listed in class schedule and complete the remainder of your coursework online through Canvas. You need a computer with internet access that can run the tools required for your class. |
Hybrid Virtual |
A course that combines Video Conferencing and online learning. You will attend live online through a video call on the days and at the times listed in the class schedule and complete the remainder of your coursework online through Canvas. You need a computer with internet access that can run the tools required for your class. |
Live Virtual Learning |
Attend class on the days and at the times listed in the class schedule. You choose to attend on campus or join the same class online through a video call. Either option means attending on the days and at the times listed in the class schedule. If you choose to attend online through a video call, you’ll need a computer with internet access that can run the tools required for your class. |
Hybrid Live Virtual |
A course that combines Live Virtual Learning and online learning. You choose to attend on campus or join the class live online through a video call, on the days and at the times listed in the class schedule. The remainder of your coursework is completed online through Canvas. You need a computer with internet access that can run the tools required for your class. |
