English As A Second Language

ESL 59 - Advanced II: Reading and Composition (6 credits)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of ESL 49 Advanced I: Reading and Composition, and successful completion or concurrent enrollment in ESL 58 Advanced II: Grammar, or appropriate ESL placement score. The course will focus on explicit instruction in high-advanced critical reading strategies and composition skills. There will be detailed analysis of a variety of texts with emphasis on the development of critical thinking, high-advanced academic vocabulary, and fluency as well as accuracy in academic writing necessary for high-advanced courses. Students will compose academic essays and other types of writing with beginning textual support.
