We have been providing a quality education at an affordable price for the veterinary profession and animal health industry since 1973.

We offer veterinary technician courses at our Maple Woods campus, veterinary assistant and veterinary receptionist classes at our Maple Woods and Blue River campuses, pre-veterinary prerequisites at all five MCC campuses, and practice management courses at all five MCC campuses and online.

Steps to get into the Veterinary Technician Program

1. Apply to MCC by clicking on:  Apply Now to MCC

2. Complete the following three Veterinary Technician Program prerequisites before December 31st:

  • BIOL 106 General Zoology (BIOL 101 General Biology can be taken if Zoology is not available)
  • CHEM 105 Introductory Chemistry (CHEM 111 General College Chemistry also acceptable)
  • ENGL 101 Composition and Reading I

3. Download and read the Veterinary Technician Program Application Packet by clicking on:

4. Complete seven (7) hours of observing a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in a veterinary hospital, or be employed in a veterinary hospital.

5.  Be in the process of taking or have completed the General Education courses required for the degree.

6.  Apply to the MCC Veterinary Technician Program by completing the Veterinary Technician Program Application packet.  Submit the completed application packet to the MCC- Maple Woods Veterinary Technology program by April 1st.

6.  The Veterinary Technician Program selection committee will review applications from April 2nd-22nd.  The committee will select the top 60 applicants for interviews.  The committee will evaluate applicants for good communication skills, a minimum of 2.5 GPA in the prerequisite courses, veterinary hospital observation time or work experience, success with current  or completed  general education courses, and recommendations.  All applicants will be notified after April 22nd if they have been invited to interview for the program.

7.  Interviews will be conducted in May.  Interviews will be conducted by a panel interview committee in the Maple Woods Veterinary Technician Program building.

8.  New student orientation will occur in June for students accepted into the Veterinary Technician Program.  Study materials will be handed out during this orientation to prepare students for the classes starting in August.
