Practical Nursing Job Outlook

Job Preparation: Student Employment Services
Job Bank: Career Central

The opportunities are endless. Because of a current shortage of nurses, there are always openings for LPNs. The MCC Research department maintains a publication detailing the career outlook for LPN (PDF) program graduates.

Employment of licensed practical nurses is projected to grow 25 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations, due to the long-term care needs of an increasing elderly population and the general increase in demand for health care services. According to the Department of Labor, the median annual wage for licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses was $41,540 in May 2012. You can expect to start at $15 to $20 per hour.
