Foreign Language - Study Abroad

Experience Havana, Cuba and earn MCC credit

The Center for Cross-Cultural Study (CC-CS) and MCC offer a comprehensive, customized cultural travel program in Cuba including expert-led lectures, service learning opportunities, local study visits and cultural activities and bilingual on-site support. Students have the unique opportunity to experience the Cuban Culture.

Intensive Spanish Language Classes

MCC students will spend a total of 12 hours in the classroom taking Spanish classes taught by local Cuban professors.

Service Learning Opportunities

MCC students will be able to do service learning by participating in three community projects.

Cultural Activities

To enhance your cultural experience in Havana, Spanish Studies Abroad organizes various excursions, study visits and other activities throughout your semester. These activities are coordinated to enhance your class studies. Sites include a walking tour of Old Havana, the Museum of the Revolution, Fabrica del Arte, Fine Arts Museum and Casa de Africa.

Homestay Information

Cultural Activities

You will live with a host family in a casa particular. They will provide you with daily breakfast and dinner. For lunches, you can explore Havana on your own! Your homestay will be located about a 25-minute walk from the Universidad de La Habana, where your classes will take place. Lodging is composed of double rooms with private baths, air conditions in a developing country are neither luxurious nor fully functioning. Therefore, be prepared for minor inconveniences such as occasional cold showers or low water pressure, a noisy air-conditioning unit or a malfunctioning television. It is important to remember that these minor inconveniences are an integral part of "The Cuban Experience" and can be rich in their educational value.


Additional Tours

Day excursions to Varadaro beach and to Viñales to visit a Tobacco farm and Cueva del Indio.
