Healthcare IT Principles and Essential Skills

This course is designed for students who want to start or advance a career in healthcare information technology. (Although it is not required, students should have one year of technical IT experience or course and instructional equivalents.) This course will serve as a bridge to transition from IT to Healthcare IT. It will also serve as an exam preparation for the CompTIA Healthcare IT Technician exam. The Essential Skills portion of the class introduces students to skills related to healthcare information technology. Topics include an introduction to the healthcare workplace, teamwork, communication, customer service, HIPPA and confidentiality, and career planning.

The course is divided into three sections:
1. Hardware, software, and networking as defined by the CompTIA IT Fundamentals Exam Guide. Students
2. Healthcare information technology as defined by the Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and
3. Microsoft office software as defined by the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) exam.
