Assistance League of Kansas City to support scholarship program at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley
June 9, 2021
Assistance League of Kansas City President Barb Condra will present a $16,000 check to Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley President Tyjaun Lee in a ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 10 on the fifth floor of MCC-Penn Valley’s Campus Center. The scholarship will go toward books, tuition and fees, essential food for the food pantry or other educational expenses for underserved students.
Lee said, "The Assistance League of Kansas City is a valued partner through their scholarship donations, compassion for our students needs and providing assistance to adult learners and single parents returning to college."
Assistance League of Kansas City Vice President Janet Johnson said, "Assisting students to pay for post-secondary education is consistent with the mission of ALKC by meeting the unmet needs of children and adults in the greater Kansas City area."
Almost 50% of students at MCC qualify for financial aid with more than $30 million available last year alone.
"College, tuition and fees can be a huge stressor for many college students," said MCC alumnus, Dayana Jules. "This program will help alleviate a huge amount of stress and will also allow students to allocate more time focusing on their studies rather than figuring out how to make college more affordable."
