Information Literacy Instruction Sessions and Tours
Our librarians teach research skills to students in one or more class sessions. Topics we teach can include:
- Critical thinking skills for research
- Navigating databases to find reliable articles and books
- Website evaluation
- Other topics specific to your assignments and students’ needs.
Please contact the Penn Valley Library at 816.604.4081 to schedule an Information Literacy Instruction session. Please provide us at least 2 school days’ notice. You can bring your students in to the Learning Resources building for instruction in our library classroom (LR226), or a librarian can come to your classroom to do the instruction.
Books, textbooks, journal articles, DVDs, etc., may be put on reserve in the library for one semester if they conform to copyright laws. You determine the length of the checkout period. Please remind your students that they need an MCC photo ID to check out any library materials, even 'library use only' reserve items. Contact the Circulation Desk, 816.604.4080.
Library databases are available anywhere on any campus. Remote access is available off-campus using the myMCCKC portal login or through Blackboard. If you have any questions please call the reference desk at 816.604.4081.
For help with research, online resources and other reference questions, please call the reference desk at 816.604.4081. An online chat library service is also available during , hours and accessible from the library website or through Blackboard.

A Word About Assignments
Before making assignments involving library resources, please check with a reference librarian to see if we have the materials your student will need. A class syllabus is very helpful in preparing the library staff for upcoming student assignments as well.
