MCC's College for Kids offers enrichment opportunities for kids and teens ages 5-17 in a fun and safe environment where they enjoy educational and hands-on learning activities.   The classes are designed to engage the youth in new experiences, develop new interests, teach meaningful skills and excite students about learning. College for Kids is available on all Metropolitan Community College Campuses.

Ocean Life and African Wild Animals Pastel Workshop

Ages 6-12
Students will explore ocean life and learn to draw some of Africa’s most majestic animals in color with pastels. We will create detailed, pastel compositions focusing on Ocean and African Wild Animal themes. Your imagination can go wild from the African Safari to the depths of the Ocean! Pastels are an amazing medium – that can have beautiful results. No experience necessary! Our instruction will bring remarkable results, and you will want to head to the frame shop with your child’s finished pastel piece. Please wear an old shirt or smock each day.  All drawing materials provided.

Camp time: 9 am-4pm (includes: 30 minute lunch break. Must bring own lunch)

Checkmate Challenge Lego Camp    

Ages 5-16
Checkmate Challenge Lego Camp is designed to introduce youth to
chess strategy and tactics while showing kids basic engineering skills in building chess sets. The Kansas City Chess Club certified staff will show kids how to build Lego Chess Sets while showing key chess strategy tactics. Fun for both girls and boys, all skill levels welcome.  Boy Scouts can earn their Chess merit badge and Cub Scouts can earn their belt loop and pin while having fun!
Camp time: 9am-4pm (includes: 30 minute lunch break. Must bring own lunch)

STEM Challenge + Minecraft w/LEGO® Materials

Ages 7 – 12
Gear up for a full-day LEGO® camp packed with hands-on and minds-on STEM fun! In this challenge based program, build projects inspired by cool machines close to home, such as Forklifts, Houseboats, and a Mini-Golf Course. Then build Motorized Minecarts, Ghasts, and Creepers from the Minecraft universe! Engineer and Craft innovative solutions in this new full-day themed engineering camp for LEGO® fanatics!

Principles of Flight

Ages 7 to 12
Students will explore the fundamentals of aerodynamics in this hands-on program about how things fly.  From the basic principles of flight to building airplanes and testing them in wind tunnels to hovercraft and balloon copter building, children will understand what makes things fly and how different types of aircraft fly.  Campers will take home various paper airplane designs, balloon copters and more!

Junior Engineers

Ages 7 to 12
Young engineers will have lots to talk about after a full day of building and testing structures out of lots of different materials!  They check out pyramids, arches, inflatable beams, and build bridges and sky scrapers.  In between, children will have fun playing games and puzzles with shapes and structures.

Ooey, Gooey Insides

Investigate the insides of Tall Paul. Make boogers that you can hold. Learn about the digestive process and take home edible excrement.

Aerospace and Robotics Engineering Camp

Ages: 6 to 12
Students will learn about aerospace and robotics engineering through hands-on exploration.  Like engineers, they will use the engineering design process to design, build and test rockets, parachutes and lunar landers.  They will also learn about robotics by participating in a sumo robot battle tournament with their engineering design team.  Have fun while learning about engineering and building your own designs!  Please bring your lunch!
