Story Games Workshop: Extending the Storytelling Experience
Part of the 2018 KC Storytelling Celebration

Learn how to investigate the use of story games to extend the storytelling, reading, writing and listening experience.

Playing with stories builds communication skills and extends the storytelling and story reading experience. In the games introduced here, participants will find activities for the perennially shy as well as outgoing students.

Storytelling is an excellent pre-writing tool; through listening to stories and playing story games, students learn story structure, sequencing, event prediction and expanded vocabulary. Gesture, voice and movement underline the meaning in the stories. Storytelling is accessible to visual, aural and kinesthetic learners.

Priscilla will also discuss how to adapt these games to the curriculum of specific topics.

Participants will

  • Learn story games and activities that extend the storytelling experience,
  • Understand how and when these activities will be most effective within the curriculum,
  • Use these activities with the appropriate developmental stages of students,
  • Be able to teach these activities to students.
