Diversity in Discipline:  This session will provide participants specific ideas and concepts to promote and enhance diversity in the following disciplines:  

  • Humanities: English, Foreign Language, Arts (music, theatre and fine arts), Communications, Philosophy, Reading


    Social Sciences: History, Sociology, Psychology, Geography, Political Science, Education

  • Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Mathematics

  • Technology: Business, Fire Science, Police Science, Criminal Justice, Health Sciences, Welding, HVAC, Lineman, CSIS, etc. (Basically AAS and certificate programs)

  • Non-Teaching: Library, Counseling

1:30 - 2:20 Faculty Follow Up Session - Education Center Rooms

Moderated by:  Mickey McCloud, Dean of Instruction, MCC-Blue River

This panel will discuss strategies from the discipline sessions to create greater inclusion and retention in the classroom. Some of the points of discussion and emphasis will center on: classroom disruption, being aware of our own beliefs and assumptions, teaching methods to address multiple learning styles of diverse learners, possible classroom norms that emphasize respect, fairness and equity.
