Penn Valley offers
courses in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish and
French. Contact the Humanities Office at (816) 759-4272
for more information on particular courses.
In addition to courses in Foreign Languages, PVCC
also offers an extensive list of English as a Second
Language (ESL) courses. These courses are offered through
the Applied Language Institute, a joint Penn Valley
and University of Missouri--Kansas City program.
Grammar, Composition, Reading/Vocabulary, and Speaking/Listening
classes are available at beginning, intermediate, and
advanced levels.
Students interested in ESL classes must take the placement
test offered by the Applied Language Institute.
For further information about the Institute, the placement
test, and ESL courses, please contact the Applied Language
Institute at (816) 759-4041 or stop by the office at
CC 409 on the PVCC campus.
Because of the joint nature of the ALI program, some
faculty are UMKC employees. Juanan
Hill is the only
full time ALI teacher who is formally a part of the
PVCC Humanities Division.
