Sunny Days Ahead

Saturday, April 22, 2017 - 7:30pm

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation has raised more than $100 million in their dedication to pediatric cancer research, helping to fund over 475 cutting-edge research projects since 2000. Though Alexandra (Alex) Flynn Scott, founder of the lemonade stand at age 4, is no longer with us, her legacy of strength, hope, and better things to come live on. Come tap your toes with the chorale as they remind you of sunny days, lemonade stands, and baseball (did someone say Royals??), all while raising money for this wonderful organization.

Psalms

Saturday, November 19, 2016 - 7:30pm

The sacred space of the Stone Church is the perfect backdrop for an evening of Psalms during the season of Thanksgiving. The music of well-loved composers like John Rutter and John Ness Beck will sit side-by-side with works from composers new to many, and will be sure to engage the listener in an evening of eclectic and altogether beautiful song. Psalms of gratitude, joy, and sorrow, as well as Psalms anticipating the holiday season to come will offer a moment of reflection sure to warm your heart.

About Us

Approximately 50 musicians from the Kansas City area and the Metropolitan Community College breathe life into a wide variety of choral music. Under the direction of Dr. Rebecca Johnson, the chorale has performed throughout Missouri and from coast to coast, including performances with the San Diego Symphony, for Independence Day Celebrations in Washington DC, and for the Missouri Music Educators Convention. The chorale made its international debut in 2006 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In addition to the large group, two small ensembles, including a pops group and a chamber group provide opportunities for performing a wide variety of music. Frequently sharing the stage with other musical ensembles and soloists, the chorale performs everything from Cole Porter to Beethoven. "We work hard and love doing it." says Johnson. Dr. Johnson and the Metropolitan Chorale of Kansas City welcome you to our performances.

Audition

The Metropolitan Chorale of Kansas City is open to college students and community members of all ages by audition and interview.

Audition

Auditions are held the first two weeks of each college semester. They can be scheduled through the conductor, the chorale manager, or by coming to one of the first two rehearsals. The audition will consist of singing a simple warm-up and a simple piece such as America the Beautiful for the conductor. A prepared piece is welcome but not necessary. Reading music, while a great asset, is not a requirement.

Interview

The interview will be conducted with the audition and will discuss expectations, season schedule, and concert attire.

Membership Fees

Participants wanting to sing without credit pay a $25.00 membership fee. Singers wanting college credit from MCC-Blue River pay for one credit-hour.

If you would like to audition, or for more information, please send us an email, or contact Rebecca Johnson at 816-604-6508.
