The Metropolitan Community College was designated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as an OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTI/EC) in 1992. The Region VII OTI/EC is located on the campus of the MCC-Business & Technology Campus. We are authorized to present many of the same courses that are offered at the OSHA Training Institute.
I am a new safety director, what courses should I take?
A foundation in hazard recognition and the abatement of hazards is essential. In addition, a familiarization with OSHA's applicable standards is necessary. These can be obtained by attending a course directed at general industry (OSHA 511) or construction (OSHA 510) related issues. There are specialized courses for those directly involved in such matters as respiratory protection, excavating, electrical and permit-required confined spaces to name a few.
How do I become qualified to teach the 10- and 30-hour Outreach courses?
You must successfully complete the OSHA 500 in order to be qualified to present the 10- and 30-hour Construction Industry Outreach Program. To present the 10- and 30-hour General Industry Outreach Program you must successfully complete the OSHA 501. Successful completion refers to attendance and a passing grade on the post-assessment.
Am I qualified to take the OSHA 500 or 501?
These are both train-the-trainer courses that have pre-requisites. You must have taken the OSHA 510 (construction) or 511 (general industry) OR have had 30 hours of training applicable to your field including electrical personal protective equipment and fall protection. In addition to the training requirement you must have approximately five years of experience in general industry or construction safety. Consideration in given for degrees in safety and certifications such as the CSP.
Do you present your courses at a company's location?
Yes. We have the resources to present all of our courses at a location chosen by a company. Please contact our Business Development Team for information.
