What do people in this career do?

Stationary engineers control and maintain the heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems for large buildings. They start up, regulate and shut down equipment such as diesel engines, turbines, generators, pumps, condensers and compressors. They monitor meters, gauges and computerized controls making sure the equipment operates safely, economically and within established limits.

Stationary engineers work inf actories, hospitals, hotels, office and apartment buildings, schools and shopping malls.

How long does it take to get a certificate or degree?

For full-time students it takes one year to get a certificate, two years to get an applied science degree.
