HVAC/R technicians install, maintain, diagnose and repair climate control systems. They connect wiring and install controls, motors, compressors, evaporators, air ducts and vents, and multiple-fuel heating systems.Where can I work?
About half of all HVAC/R technicians work for cooling and heating contractors, while the rest work in diverse settings, from heating or fuel oil industries, utility companies and factories to schools, hospitals, office buildings and government.How long does it take to get a certificate or degree?
A 15-week, 23-credit-hour program provides a strong foundation and prepares students for the EPA refrigeration certification examination. A 33-credit-hour program earns a certificate, and can be completed in one year, attending full time. After completing 62 credit hours (two years, full time) you can earn an associate in applied science degree program in HVAC/R. The program is an approved North American Technician Excellence testing organization, the leading certification program for technicians in the industry.Will my credits transfer to another college or university?
Yes! Most general education courses transfer without problem. Also, HVAC/R credits transfer to DeVry University to earn a bachelor of science in technical management.How much money can I make in this career?
