Overview:
If you're interested in becoming a carpenter, ironworker, cement mason, bricklayer, glazier, painter, electrician (inside wiring), or construction laborer you can now earn both an apprenticeship and a degree on your way to a building trades career.

This is possible because of MCC's partnerships with: Some of the most sought-after, well-paid people in the country are those with construction skills--even without a degree.

Add a degree and the opportunities are even greater. The combination of broad-based skills and a degree are an indispensable career asset.

That's why there's no better avenue to success in a building trades career than professional apprenticeship training combined with an associate in applied science degree from the Metropolitan Community Colleges.

The AAS Degree for carpenters, ironworkers, cement masons, bricklayers, glaziers, painters and construction laborers:
Thirty college credit hours are awarded for the completion of a federally approved apprenticeship program that contains 450 or more clock hours classroom instruction and and 4,000 clock hours of on-the-job training. After completing 35-36 additional credit hours, the student is awarded the associate in applied science degree in Industrial Technologies with an emphasis in Construction Options.

All carpentry, ironworking, bricklaying, glazing, painting, and cement masonry apprenticeship classes are offered at The Builders' Association Education Center, 105 West 12th Street, North Kansas City, MO. Classes are held during the non-peak building seasons so you can complete your training at times when overtime, work schedules, and other job demands are at a minimum.

The AAS degree for electricians (inside wiring):
Forty-two college credit hours are awarded for the completion of a federally approved apprenticeship program that contains a minimum of 540 clock hours of classroom instruction and 4,000 clock hours of on-the-job training. After completing 26 additional credit hours, the student is awarded the associate in applied science degree in Industrial Technologies with an emphasis in Construction Options.

All electrician (inside wiring) apprenticeship classes are offered at the Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Center, 303 East 103rd Terrace, Kansas City, MO. For more information contact the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Center, (816) 942-3242, http://kcjatc124.org.
