Tutoring Overview -- Student Success Center


The Student Success Center (SSC) offers FREE tutoring for students enrolled in MCC courses. We offer help with study skills and test-taking techniques. We have workshops on topics such as building math skills, reading comprehension, speech preparation and writing research papers.

Our tutors and learning specialists offer assistance in a variety of subjects. The primary goal of the Student Success Center is provide assistance as you develop into an independent learner and foster your success as student.

We promote student engagement in the learning process and are committed to maintaining high standards, encouraging student success and creating lifelong learners.

Zola's work focuses on student success at MCC-Penn Valley. She invites students to work with her and to take advantage of the support available on campus and in the community that will help them organize their lives - balancing the responsibilities of home and school demands. Academic Success Tips from the Student Success Center:

  • Attend every class.
  • Be on time.
  • If you arrive late, take a seat quietly without disrupting the class.
  • Let your instructor know if you must miss class.
  • Read and keep track of the syllabus.
  • Take notes in class.
  • Review your notes everyday after class.
  • Do your assignments and turn them in on time.
  • Begin papers/projects when they are assigned.
  • Read the assigned chapter before class.
  • Utilize the Student Success Center before you have a problem in class.
  • Get to know your classmates and form study groups.
  • Take a realistic course load.
  • Participate in campus activities.
  • Eat healthy and get plenty of sleep.

All services provided free of charge to students currently enrolled in MCC courses.
