General Information

Library Cards

All students enrolled at Maple Woods are eligible to receive a library card. It is a permanent card to be used while you are actively enrolled at Maple Woods. It takes only a few minutes to obtain and there is no fee for the initial card.

Your Maple Woods library card enables you to check out most circulating materials at any of the WILO (Western InterLibrary Organization) libraries. This includes all of the Metropolitan Community College libraries, Avila University's Hooley-Bundschu Library, William Jewell's Curry Library, the library at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Rockhurst University's Greenlease Library, St. Paul School of Theology's Dawson Library, and the Kansas City Art Institute's Jannes Library. You may place online requests for materials from these and other statewide academic libraries as well, using the MOBIUS online catalog. Other types of Interlibrary Loan allow you to request materials from academic and public libraries nationwide. These privileges are open to you during each academic semester in which you are enrolled. Ask at the circulation desk for more information.

What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a system which allows library patrons to obtain books from other libraries.

Who may use this service?

Students and employees of the Metropolitan Community Colleges (MCC) may use this service. MCC is a member of MOBIUS and other library consortia, and participates in OCLC, an international bibliographic database and lending service. Persons not affiliated with MCC should contact their local public library or academic library to inquire about ILL services.

What can be obtained through Interlibrary Loan?

ILL usually involves books and articles from magazines, newspapers, and journals. Reference materials, nonprint items, and entire issues of journals are generally not available through Interlibrary Loan.

How long does it take?

Delivery time varies due to distance, courier services, and item availability. Plan ahead and order early to ensure that needed materials arrive in time.

What does it cost?

WILO and MOBIUS loans are always free, but there may be fees for other types of interlibrary loans. The library will advise you of any fee before ordering an item.

How do I pick up ILL items?

You will be notified through Student E-mail when the item arrives in the library. All materials must be picked up at the library which ordered the item for you.

How long may I keep the item?

The return date will be marked on each item. Items should be returned to the Maple Woods Library on time to avoid charges.

How do I order materials through ILL?

Requests from MOBIUS can be made directly from the MOBIUS online catalog using either the library's or your own computer. Other ILL requests must be made at the circulation desk at the library. Contact the library for details.
