Library services are availiable online and through the Learning Resource Center. Testing Services are also provided through the Library/ LRC.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a system that allows library patrons to obtain books from other libraries.
Students and employees of the Metropolitan Community Colleges may use this service. MCC is a member of MOBIUS and other library consortia, and participates in OCLC, an international bibliographic database and lending service. Persons not affiliated with MCC should contact their local public library or academic library to inquire about ILL services.
ILL usually involves books and articles from magazines, newspapers, and journals. Reference materials, nonprint items, and entire issues of journals are generally not available through Interlibrary Loan.
Delivery time varies due to distance, courier services, and item availability. Plan ahead and order early to ensure that needed materials arrive in time.
Fees vary, but the Library will advise you of any fee before ordering the item. Contact your MCC library for details.
You will receive a telephone call or letter when the item arrives in the Library. All materials must be picked up at the Library that ordered the item for you. Ask your MCC Library for details.
The return date will be marked on each item. ALL ILL ITEMS MUST BE RETURNED TO THE MCC LIBRARY THAT OBTAINED THEM FOR YOU, NOT TO THE OWNING LIBRARY.
MCC-BTC offers a 14-computer lab with access to Blackboard, an online catalog and an extensive number of online databases to assist students with their research needs. Computer users are required to follow the MCC college use guidelines and the Morenet acceptable use policy. Computers are for research and course assignment use.

Placement testing is free of charge and helps you know where to begin your college studies. Testing is required in English, Reading and
Mathematics for most students and must be completed prior to enrollment.
If you are a new student, you must have a completed MCC application submitted before testing. If you are a high school student, you will need to have your application signed by a
high school counselor.
If you've never attended college, and are taking 6 or more credit hours
If your Placement Test of ACT scores are more than 2 years old
If you are an intermittent student and do not have a college transcript showing a grade of "C" or better in college-level English and Mathematics courses
NOTE: Students whose native language is not English should contact the Applied Language Institute located at Penn Valley, 3201 Southwest Trafficway,
Kansas City, MO, Campus Center Building, Room 409, phone (816)759-4041, before taking the Placement Test.
Tests are not timed. Plan at least 2 hours in your schedule to complete the test.
If you have taken the ACT in the last two years, you may be able to use the English and Reading scores in place of testing; Math Placement Testing will be required. If you have not submitted your ACT scores to MCC, a copy of the score report is necessary upon arrival to take the test.
Students with college level credit in English or Math with a grade of "C" or better may not be required to take the Placement Test. If you have college credit from another institution, make an appointment with an advisor before testing. BTC Advisor contact information: (816) 604.5210
Placement testing is administered with a computerized program called COMPASS. COMPASS is user friendly and designed for individuals with little or
no computer experience. The test is untimed and adapts to your abilities; questions increase in difficulty depending on your skill level.
The COMPASS math test content includes pre-algebra to advanced math problems. The COMPASS writing test includes grammar, punctuation, sentence structure
as well as strategy, organization and style in effective writing. The COMPASS reading test allows the student to highlight the main idea of a passage
thereby measuring reading for comprehension and prior knowledge.
COMPASS sample questions are available at the BTC Library or you may access the following website: http://www.act.org/compass/sample
COMPASS is not a pass/fail test. It was developed to assist college academic advising and course selection. Your scores indicate academic strengths and needs in relation to college-level work for your chosen major. Should you require assistance in meeting academic challenges, MCC campuses offer courses in Math, Reading, English and study skills.
Tests are administered in alternate formats for students with documented disabilities
Make-up testing is available for a student who has missed an exam in a regular class. Make-up exams are given with an instructor's approval only and
must be accompanied by a testing form. Instructors or students must schedule an appointment at least 24 hours in advance of an exam.
NOTE: A test must be started two hours prior to library closing time.

5. Having in one's possession books or other library materials not properly checked out of the library.
Metropolitan Community College campuses are places of easy access to the public and do not have the resources to protect unsupervised children. Leaving your child unsupervised on campus while you are in class could place your child at risk. Therefore, students are prohibited from leaving a child unattended at any of the college facilities. Unattended children will be reported to the security office and the parent/guardian responsible could face disciplinary action. In order to provide an environment that promotes learning and is considerate of students' study needs, children are not permitted in the library.
Library and Learning Resource and Testing Center users are expected to conduct themselves so that others will not be distracted from the pursuit of learning. Please help us keep the Library a congenial place to study, research or test.
An evacuation diagram is posted in the library. Please take a minute to look it over in case of emergency.
Food or drink items are allowed only at the study tables. No food or drink is allowed in the computer lab.
The library and computer lab areas are designated for studying and should be free from distraction. Therefore, the use of cell phones is prohibited in the library or computer lab. Cell phones and pagers must remain on silent and all calls must be taken outside of the library.
The use of library/computer lab printers is restricted to school related material. There is one coin-operated copy machine in the library. Each copy costs $.10
