Base Salary and job outlook:
Median wages (national): $25.27 hourly; $52,570 annual
Median wages (Missouri): $25.31 hourly; $52,600 annual
Projected job growth (national - 2006-2016): Average (7% to 13%) 43,000 additional employees
These figures do not take into account retirements, only newly created jobs. By 2010, as many as 60 percent of today's experienced utility workers will retire.

Career Opportunities:
Graduates of the Electric Utility Line Technician program are in demand by electrical utilities, rural electric cooperatives, and construction companies. The employment opportunities for line technicians are excellent across the country, and those applicants with formal training typically have higher starting salaries and greater opportunity for advancement within the industry.

How long does it take to get a degree?
After completing the 12-month certificate, the 18 additional credits required for the A.A.S. degree can be completed in one or two semesters.

What is the advantage of taking classes at MCC-Business & Technology?
You'll get hands-on experience and real-world application of principles in our labs and classrooms. Industry professionals teach each class.

Will my credits transfer to another college or university?
The AAS degree in Industrial Technology-Electric Distribution will transfer to the University of Central Missouri's Industrial Technology 2+2 bachelor of science degree program. Check with one of our advisors for more transfer information.

  2. Apply for financial aid. See Financial Aid. Call 816-482-5252 with questions.
  3. Take the Compass placement test at the MCC- BTC library, or at any MCC campus.
  4. Download and print the Application Form and Program Information Booklet. (If you have problems downloading these files, call Jennifer Dec at 816-482-5602 and request that printed copies be mailed.)

  6. Complete the application. Send with resume or bring with you (completed) at the time of your interview.
    These items must be completed before your interview:

    Take the Compass placement test at the MCC-BTC Library, or at any MCC Campus
    Take the Kuder Skills Assessment in the MCC-BTC Library or online anywhere missouriconnections.org (Call the library at 816-482-5296 for instructions)

  7. Personal interviews will begin the week of Oct. 1 for the top 60 applicants, based on testing and resume.
  8. The 35 applicants selected will be required to pass a Missouri Dept. of Transportation physical, drug screening and a background check, which MCC will arrange. Any violent or sexual felony convictions will prevent admission to the program.
