Strategies for Using Rubrics

  • Use rubrics early in the semester to norm students to your expectations, especially on repeat assignments

  • Design primary trait scales/rubrics to measure only the features you seek to observe or heighten awareness of

  • Use one when it stands to provide the greatest benefit to the student and to you: at the rough draft stage
