Elementary Surveying (3 Cr.)
Prerequisite: Math 105, 130 or 150. Introduction to the care and use of optical
surveying instruments; Transits, Total Stations and Auto Levels. Use of
cloth tapes, steel tapes and electronic distance machines. Reduction
of slope measurements to horizontal and vertical components. Measurement,
field data reduction and adjustment of a closed traverse. Horizontal and
vertical curves, earthwork and coordinates. Extensive field work, field
notes and electronic data collection. Introduction to systematic and random
errors.

SRVY 235 - Advanced Surveying (3 Cr.)
Prerequisite: SRVY 135 and DRAF 152. This course is a continuation of
surveying skills introduced in SRVY 135 with an emphasis on advanced
techniques beyond plane surveying such as geodetic control networks,
practical astronomy, state plane coordinates, photogrammetry, and the US
Public Land Surveys System. |

NEW COURSE
- MEETS MATH REQUIREMENT FOR DEGREE AND CERTIFICATE IN LAND SURVEY
MATH 105 - Algebra & Trigonometry for Land Surveyors (4
Cr.) ***
Prerequisite: Math 40.
Review of order of operations, scientific notation, rounding and significant
digits. Review of basic area and volume formulas with applications to more
general shapes. Quadratic and linear functions including piecewise
definitions. Distance formula, midpoint formula, equations of circles. Map
reading, contours and elevation. Classification of angles and triangles.
Right triangle trigonometry. Conversions between radians and
degrees/minutes/seconds and decimal degrees. Law of sines, law of cosines,
arc length, vectors, and bearing. For all topics there will be an emphasis
on application appropriate to the study of land surveying.
($6.00 fee)
