Metropolitan Community College supports an integrated learning experience for students with disabilities by promoting an environment that is free from barriers. Disability Support Services
Metropolitan Community College complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act which prohibit discrimination in admission or access to its programs based on disability. Each MCC campus has an Disability Support Services (DSS) office that provides special services for students with documented disabilities. Arrangements can be made for aids and adjustments to help ensure equal access to programs and services.
The campus DSS office also has information regarding the existence and location of services, activities, and facilities that are accessible to and usable by persons with disabilities.

If you have a disability, you'll find MCC a friendly place. Through our DSS offices, we work to remove barriers to your college education. Services provided through the DSS office include:
- Classroom accommodations, such as note takers and preferential seating
- Interpreters, readers and scribes
- Connecting with community professionals and agencies
- Textbooks in alternative formats, such as audio books
- Testing accommodations, such as extended test time and distraction-reduced testing
- Services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students, such as sign language interpreters
Transitioning from High School to College
With regard to students with disabilities, the responsibility of colleges and their students are significantly different than the responsibilities of elementary and secondary schools and their students. For more information on these important issues, please review U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights, “Students with Disabilities Preparing for Postsecondary Education: Know Your Rights and Responsibilities”, or contact the DSS office at your MCC campus.
Contact your campus DSS office each semester in which you wish to receive accommodations. The DSS Coordinator will work with you to determine what disability documentation/information is needed in order to provide accommodations. Accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis.
Students can contact DSS to request accommodations at any time during their education, but early notification to DSS can allow for more time to make arrangements.
