Sue Gochis, Vice Chancellor, Student Success and Engagement, and President, MCC-Blue River

Sue Gochis began her service to Metropolitan Community College in July 2020 as vice chancellor for instruction and chief academic officer. She transitioned to new roles on July 1, 2023, when she was named vice chancellor of student success and engagement and president of MCC-Blue River.

Gochis has worked at community colleges for most of her career, first as a faculty member and later as an administrator. "Working in a community college system is so rewarding,” says Gochis (pronounced GAW-chiss). "Everyone is at a different stage in their journey. Community colleges have the ability to truly transform lives, and that is what motivates me each and every day.”

She obtained degrees from Southwestern College and Pittsburg State University (Winfield and Pittsburg, Kansas, respectively) and has worked in higher education since 1986. Gochis spent a large part of her career at Cowley College in Arkansas City, Kansas, initially as a full-time algebra instructor and assistant volleyball coach. She went on to serve there in roles including division chair, admissions director, dean of student life and vice president of student affairs. From 2013-2017, she was vice president of student services at Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe, California. She came to MCC after serving as assistant superintendent and vice president of student services at Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz, California (2017-2020).

She is married to Peter Gochis and enjoys spending any free time with her family, which includes her parents, siblings, children, nieces, nephews, dogs and especially her grandchildren!
