Single Sign On (SSO) password syncing issue

Issue: MCC username and password works for the myMCCKC portal work, but not for email, Canvas, and other MCC systems.

Resolution: Your myMCCKC and Microsoft passwords are not synchronized and must be updated separately. To reset your Microsoft password, making sure it meets the complexity requirements shown below.

Password complexity requirements

  1. You cannot reuse any of the last 24 passwords previously set.
  2. Must be at least 11 characters in length
  3. Must have at least one upper-case letter
  4. Must have at least one lower-case letter
  5. Must have at least one number
  6. Your password can't contain three consecutive characters of your username or first or last name.

Steps to change your myMCCKC password

  1. Go to my.mcckc.edu.
  2. Log into the myMCCKC portal and change your password using the Manage Passwords link (lower portion of the menu on the left) and then the Change myMCCKC Password link.
  3. Make sure your new password meets all the criteria listed above in the Password Complexity Requirements section.
  4. Please try to log into myMCCKC.
  5. If your Canvas login still does not work, please call MCC student technical support at 816.604.1000, option 1 (employee call x1888).

For example, someone named Cathy, cannot have a password containing the words cat or thy or catalog or math, since the letters in bold are contained in the name Cathy.  It does not matter if the letters are uppercase or lowercase or a mix of cases.

Steps to change your Microsoft password

  1.  On the main login page, click “Can’t access your account?” OR “Forgot my password” OR go directly to “https://aka.ms/sspr”.
  2. Fill in your MCC Username and the security characters shown on the page. Click NEXT.
  3. Choose the “I forgot my password” option. Click NEXT.
    1. If you think you know your password but have been locked out due to too many sign-in attempts, choose the “I know my password, but still can’t sign in” option. It will prompt you to use one of the verifications methods set up and have you sign in that way.
  4.  You may have many authentication methods set up, but MCC only allows the following to be used during password reset/account unlock. Options will be presented to you based on which methods you have previously added to your account*.
    1. Authentication app (Microsoft, DUO, Google, etc.)
    2. Text
    3. Personal Email (Used for password resets only)
    4. Call
  5. Follow authentication instructions after choosing a method.
    1. Once prompted to “choose a new password”, enter a new password. DO NOT USE old or previously used passwords. Click FINISH.
    2. The page will refresh and prompt you to login with the new password. Within 3 minutes the new password will be available for campus computers and MCC-Wireless login.
  6. Wait 30 minutes to give your new password time to sync between our systems.
  7. Please try to log into Email, Canvas, or other MCC systems again.
