Dialogue on Civility and Respect Campus Series

These campus series will provide foundational training around issues towards cultural acceptance and progression.  Designed to promote intentional dialogue around micro-aggressions and micro-affirmations, these interactive series will engage participants in thought provoking concepts.  Participants will explore how MCC can promote programs and resources towards building an inclusive environment for student success.

Commission on Inclusion and Community Engagement

Metropolitan Community College is committed to providing an atmosphere that fosters and promotes opportunities to learn in a complex inclusive environment, one that encourages the engagement of difference and fosters civility and respect of faculty, staff and students. An investment in diversity enhances the educational value and contributes to the institutions success in our global society.

The Commissions on Inclusion and Community Engagement is an initiative that engages MCC in promoting respect and civility for our rich diversity in all aspects of the college experience and with our community partners.  This system wide initiative provides MCC with tools necessary to advance diversity and leverage existing programs that prepares students for our changing world.

Campus Commissions

Charged by the Presidents of each campus, each campus commission has the opportunity to engage with the individual campuses programs and initiatives providing input on the overall mission regarding equity and inclusion on that campus.  While each Campus Presidential Commission will have distinct variation from campus to campus, the Campus Commission shall provide resources and support for the following:

  • Assist with campus wide programming on issues of diversity
  • Communication and collaboration back to campuses on district wide diversity initiatives and programs
  • Serve as support mechanism for each campus as charged by the President

Specific initiatives developed by individual campuses will be generated through their Presidential Commissions and can remain distinctive to that campus.  Policy review, collaboration on initiatives and information sharing will occur at the Chancellor’s Commission on Equity and Inclusion.

Members will consist of various campus leaders and will meet monthly to engage and share reports and updates on progress, challenges and ideas to advance diversity within the system and on individual campuses.  

System Wide Expected Outcomes

The Commission on Inclusion and Community Engagement will advise and assert several fundamental goals within the model:

  • To propel MCC reputation as a welcoming and all inclusive learning environment where differences are embraced, respected, and valued. 
  • Provide programs and resources for all campuses promoting the acknowledgement, acceptance and understanding of differences in age, creed, religion, culture, mental and physical disability, gender, gender expression, ethnicity, race, nationality, sexuality, class and any other social construct/label that intends to diminish an individual or group’s status, all which contribute to the diversity we value in our college community.
  • To develop action plans and strategies to maximize our existing resources to leverage the richness of the existing diversity. 
  • Develop strategies to dramatically improve the recruitment, retention and completion of MCC's diverse population of students.
  • Through several strategic components the Commission on Cultural and Community Engagement will represent and promote an atmosphere, which encourages learning and promotes the value of diversity for all MCC community members.
  • To work with community partners such as businesses, associations and community organizations to help advance and promote diversity within our various communities and throughout the metropolitan area.
