Bernadette Torres grew up in St. Petersburg
Florida. She attended the Pinellas County Center for
the Arts in St. Petersburg Florida. Bernadette then
earned a scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute
in Kansas City Missouri and earned her BFA.
Five years later she received a full
tuition scholarship to the University of Miami in Coral
Gables Florida to earn her MFA.
Bernadette has taught at many different venues,
including the University of Miami, Gulliver Academy,
The Westport School of Art and presently at the Carter
Art Center at Penn Valley Community College, One of
the Metropolitan Community Colleges in Kansas City
Missouri.
Along with her duties as a full time Art Instructor
at the Carter Art Center, Bernadette Torres is also
the Gallery Director of the Carter Art Center Gallery.
As a working artist Bernadette has exhibited
her art work in many different group shows in Miami
and Kansas City and has recently worked on many private
commissioned pieces.

Darlene Town was born in Rochester,
NY and raised in the Kansas City area. She taught Commercial
Art and Studio Art as an adjunct instructor at Central
Missouri State University (now University of Central
Missouri) and Longview Community College starting in
2001. She joined Penn Valley full-time fall 2006.
Darlene still freelances from
her home studio as a graphic designer, web
designer, and illustrator. Prior
to teaching she was Advertising Production Director for
the Fort Worth Star-Telegram responsible for a staff
of Ad Designers, Photographers, Illustrators, and departmental
administration. This role came on the heels of ten years
working through the ranks at The Kansas City Star in
production and advertising design.
Darlene received a BFA
in Commercial Art with an emphasis in Illustration
at Central Missouri State University,
and a MA in Art there as well. Other training includes
Zenger-Miller certification (2000) with which she helped
facilitate the Leadership/ Management Development modules
for supervisory and managerial staff at the Fort Worth
Star Telegram in Texas.
As a working studio artist as well,
Darlene has exhibited her art work in many different
group shows in Kansas City and Texas.
