Prerequisites
- Students should have completed CCNA 1-4 or equivalent.
- CCNA Certification desired but not required.
- CCNP 1 could be helpful but not required.
- Work experience beneficial.
Course Description
This course focuses on the overall security processes in a network with particular emphasis on hands-on skills in the following areas: Security policy design and management; Security technologies, products, and solutions; Firewall and secure router design, installation, configuration, and maintenance; Authentication Authorization and Accounting (AAA) implementation using routers and firewalls; Securing the network at both layer 2 and 3 of the OSI model.Course Outcomes
Network Security I is an integral step towards achieving Firewall Specialist Certification. Upon completion of this course, students will have performed tasks related to:- Define security terminology and basic vulnerabilities.
- Differentiate between the various security technologies, products, and solutions.
- Describe and configure basic switch security.
- Describe and configure AAA service on routers and PIX firewalls.
- Develop and implement a security policy protecting against current security attacks, threats, and vulnerabilities.
- Demonstrate advanced installation, configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance on routers and PIX firewalls.
- Demonstrate trust and identity technology at layer 2 and 3.
Certifications Alignment
After completing this course AND the Network Security II course, students will be prepared to take the Securing Networks with Cisco Routers and Switches (SNRS) and Securing Networks with PIX and ASA (SNPA) Security Certification exams. These are two of the five exams that count towards the Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP) certification. In addition, Network Academy students who pass these two exams will be able to apply for Cisco Firewall/ASA Specialist status.Additional Information contact:
