What do people in this career do?
Manufacturing Technology includes people who set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, mills and grinders to make or repair precision parts. The career includes CNC programmers who write the computer program that operates automated machines.

Where can I work?
Students graduating from this program can work in small family-owned shops or at large manufacturing facilities such as Harley-Davidson, American Airlines and Honeywell.

How much money can I earn?
Entry-level positions start at $10 to $12 per hour. Earning potential increases greatly with training and experience. Within 3 to 5 years, students could earn $14 to $25 per hour. Experienced CNC programmers earn $25 to $30 per hour. The MCC Research department provides this PDF file to detail placement statistics for Manufacturing program graduates.

How long does it take to get a certificate or degree?
The Manufacturing Technology program offers a one-semester certificate, a one-year certificate and a two-year degree and an advanced CNC certificate. A full-time student can complete the associate in applied science degree in two years.

Will my credits transfer to another college or university?
Most general education courses will transfer without a problem. Check with your advisor or counselor and the transfer institution. This program has a formal transfer agreement with Southeast Missouri State University and DeVry University.

What is the job outlook?
The job outlook in the field is very promising. There are 400,000 skilled machinists in the U.S. but their average age is 50. Therefore, there are many job openings as current skilled workers retire. There is a severe shortage of workers to replace them.

Will this program prepare me for certification?
This program is National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certified, which means students can add the prestigious NIMS Level I Credentials to their resume as they work toward an associate in applied science degree.
