Critical Thinking Resources in the Political Sciences
It is always fun to teach Critical Thinking in an election year, and
this year should be no exception. Already the political races for the President
and several seats in congress are providing a wealth of examples for analysis.
There are even some media outlets doing a good job of analyzing some of
the political ads in their area. When I find such examples, I will add
them to this page. For the time being, check out the following resources
on the web:
-
Dave Helling's Truth Watch series.
Dave Helling is a reporter for Newchannel 4 covering the Kansas City,
MO area. Ads for candidates in local races in Kansas and Missouri as well
as ads for the presidential candidates are analyzed.
-
The CNN/Time Allpolitics - Campaignland
site.
This is a site run by CNN which catalogs all the news and information
about the current and past political races. Of special note are the archives
of political cartoons (a good source of fallacies) and the video archives
of political TV ads. For those of us in states with late primaries, this
is the only opportunity to see ads that only ran in a few states (before
the candidate dropped out of the race).
