Taking a Critical Approach to Interviewing:
Contributed by: Betty Craft and Jan Redelberger (Office Systems, Longview
and Eastern Jackson County Campus)
Interview Preparation and Negative Factors:
Preparing for an interview involves more than dressing appropriately. An
important step is to think critically regarding questions that could be
asked by you or the interviewer. Of equal importance is a knowledge
of the dynamics of the interview. In short, how to conduct yourself during
an interview.
You need to know how to effectively sell yourself, communicate your
skills and experience, and to portray your personality as one that will
fit in with the culture of the organization. Being properly prepared and
informed about the interviewing process can help you positively focus your
energies on what needs to be done
and help you find the right job.
This is a great company, and you think you are perfect for the job.
Now, you must demonstrate that to the hiring authority you are perfect
for
the position. Here are some pointers to keep in mind when going in
for the interview.
-
1. Prepare - Do not go in attempting to "wing" it. Keep in mind there are
lots of competitors for the job, and you will only have this opportunity
to impress the hiring authority.
-
Research and know the company, their history, products, services and reputation.
-
Prepare answers to questions you expect to get ahead of time.
Ethics in the Business World:
Ethical conduct is an important consideration in all aspects of our lives.
However, if you are going into the business world, you must be knowledgeable
and aware of business ethics. Articles in Business Ethics Magazine
appear here twice monthly.
