On 8/30/09, the Blazers lost their season opener to Kansas City Kansas Community College 3-1. The lone Trail Blazer goal in that game came from Yacine Hamchaoui, a standout player from Van Horn H.S. Steven Long assisted on Yacine’s goal. This was to be the first of 6 early season assists by the speedy player from Raytown H.S. The Blazers followed up the loss with a 7-3 victory over Hesston College. Goals in that game came from Yacine Hamchaoui (2), Steven Long (2), Michael Brennan, Sam Braverman and Zane Christenson. The Trail Blazers then played an NAIA four year school, Lindenwood-Belleville University, on 9/4/09. The game went to overtime and ended tied 2-2. Michael Brennan scored two tremendous headed goals off of crosses from Zane Christenson and Steven Long. The Blazers had a chance to win the game with a penalty kick in the final minute; however, the Lindenwood-Belleville goalkeeper saved the game for his team. After suffering a disappointing loss to local rival MCC Maple Woods on 9/8/09, the Trail Blazers made the trip to Northern Oklahoma College with something to prove. They handed NOC, Region 2 Champions in 2008, their first loss of the season 4-3. Michael Brennan scored the game winning goal with 7 minutes remaining. Other goals came from David Sievers, Matt Beaver and Jared Bailey. The Blazers then followed this performance with a 3-1 win over Cowley County Community College. Goals were from Sam Braverman, Kyle Young and Zane Christenson. Although he failed to score, Yacine Hamchaoui notched 2 assists in the game. With early season bumps behind them, the Trail Blazers remain focused on winning the seven Region 16 games ahead of them during the next month. |
