Adopt a Pet

The MCC veterinary technology program receives dogs and cats from regional animal shelters each semester. The program veterinary medical team and the veterinary technician students work throughout the semester to ensure the dogs and cats are healthy, socialized and ready for a loving family to adopt them.

While in the program, the animals receive the following care:

  • Routine physical examinations throughout the semester
  • Medical conditions are treated
  •  Vaccinations
    • Dogs: rabies, distemper, parvo, parainfluenza, bordetella
    • Cats: rabies, viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia
  • Stool analysis for parasites
  • Strategic deworming
  • Flea treatment
  • Blood panel test
  • Heartworm testing for each dog
  • Heartworm prevention (ProHeart 6 month) for each dog
  • Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) testing for each cat
  • Nutrition evaluation and body condition improvement through customized nutrition
  • Socialization
  • Routine bathing, brushing, nail trims, anal gland emptying (if needed)
  • Dental cleaning and polishing. Includes pre-anesthesia blood testing, IV catheter and fluid therapy, general anesthesia with isoflurane or sevoflurane general anesthesia, surgery vital sign monitoring, and good post-operative pain relievers during the procedure and the following recovery days
  • Spay or neuter. Includes pre-anesthesia blood testing, IV catheter and fluid therapy, general anesthesia with isoflurane or sevoflurane general anesthesia, surgery vital sign monitoring, and good post-operative pain relievers during the procedure and the following recovery days
  • Microchipped (while under anesthesia)
  • Twice daily feeding, watering, exercising and canine indoor/outdoor kennel/kitty condo cleaning.

The animals are adopted to families during the semester and can be taken home at the end of the semester once they have received all of their care. Animals available for adoption will be posted on our website from mid-February to the first of May, and from mid-September to the first of December.
