Library Resources
We offer students over 10,300 books, 95 current periodical subscriptions, 585 videocassettes, 30 computer workstations with access to the Internet and electronic journal databases. The BRCC library belongs to the MOBIUS consortium of Missouri academic libraries and holdings are accessible through the WILO Online Catalog.
Who may borrow materials?
All current MCC students and employees may check out library materials. Since borrowing privileges are based on current enrollment, library cards must be renewed each semester. Persons not affiliated with the Metropolitan Community Colleges may borrow MCC-owned materials through Interlibrary Loan.
Overdues & Fines
Loan periods and fines for overdue items vary by the type of item and by how long the item is overdue. Overdue fines for reserve materials, videocassettes, and interlibrary loan materials are significantly higher than fines for circulating books. Contact your campus library for details.
Reserve Items
Materials put on reserve by BRCC instructors may be checked out for two hours. Reserve materials may be photocopied, but may not leave the library. A library card is required to check out reserve items.
Photocopiers
The Library has two self-serve coin-operated photocopy machines, one with an angled "booksaver" glass top for copying thick books or other awkward items. Copies are 10¢ per page; both machines accept dollar bills. Change for thecopy machine is available from the Library Circulation Desk.
Reference Assistance
Reference Librarians are almost always available to help individual students who desire assistance with library resources. Please ask! (Seriously, no one is born knowing the Dewey Decimal System.) We want and expect students to ask for research assistance. We're here to help.
Library Conduct
Library and ARC users are expected to conduct themselves so that others will not be distracted from the pursuit of learning. Please help us keep the Library a congenial place to study or do research.
Interlibrary Loans
What is Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a system that allows library patrons to obtain books from other libraries.
Who may use this service?
Students and employees of the Metropolitan Community Colleges may use this service. MCC is a member of MOBIUS and other library consortia, and participates in OCLC, an international bibliographic database and lending service. Persons not affiliated with MCC should contact their local public library or academic library to inquire about ILL services.
What can be obtained through Interlibrary Loan?
ILL usually involves books and articles from magazines, newspapers, and journals. Reference materials, nonprint items, and entire issues of journals are generally not available through Interlibrary Loan.
How long does it take?
Delivery time varies due to distance, courier services, and item availability. Plan ahead and order early to ensure that needed materials arrive in time.
What does it cost?
Fees vary, but the Library will advise you of any fee before ordering the item. Contact your MCC library for details.
How do I pick up ILL items?
You will receive a telephone call or letter when the item arrives in the Library. All materials must be picked up at the Library that ordered the item for you. Ask your MCC Library for details.
How long may I keep the item?
The return date will be marked on each item. ALL ILL ITEMS MUST BE RETURNED TO THE MCC LIBRARY THAT OBTAINED THEM FOR YOU, NOT TO THE OWNING LIBRARY.
