Computer Classes

The secret to introductory computer training in the Northland is the Community Technology and Education Public Computer Center at MCC-Maple Woods.

MCC-Maple Woods provides nearby convenience, small classes, and quality instruction. Become "digitally literate" in the ever changing world of eletronic communication.

Classes are free, however an MCC-Maple Woods Community Education ID card is required.

Classes

*Orientation is required and is an hour in duration. Orientation is an overview of the policies and procedures for participating in the classes. After completing the Orientation class and getting their I.D. card, students are eligible to register for any of the two-hour introductory computer classes offered monthly.

See the Public Computer Center site for a current calendar of classes. Printed copies of the current Maple Woods calendar of classes are available on the Maple Woods campus at the Information Desk, and in the Community Education Office.

Orientation Keyboarding
Register for the MCC-Maple Woods Public Computer Center. You will learn about our list of classes, monthly calendars, the benefits of Blackboard and the rules and procedures of the Public Computer Center. Learn to type! Within class instructions and typingweb.com
Basic Skills Blackboard
Utilizes hands-on training for mouse skills to perform basic functions and learn to select text to make changes to it. You will become familiar with computer related vocabulary. Blackboard Intro: PCC Certificate is designed to help our non-credit students learn how to navigate Blackboard in order to take our online digital literacy classes.
Blackboard: Credit Students is offered as a resource for MCC credit students to learn how to navigate Blackboard.

Microsoft Windows Microsoft PowerPoint
You will learn to launch programs, how to find and access files, create files and learn to delete files. You will also learn to cut, copy and paste to your work.

Learn to create slide show presentations that utilize special text, charts and photos.

Internet E-mail

Learn to navigate the World Wide Web! You will learn to utilize different search engines and become familiar with Internet related vocabulary. You will also learn to set "favorites" to customize your searches.

To take this class you must have a GMAIL account. We only teach email with GMAIL. You will obtain in-depth information on writing, sending and receiving emails. A working knowledge of the Internet is required to attend this class.

Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel

Learn the basics of MS Word including how to create, save, edit and open documents. You need to be proficient in using the mouse before taking this class.

MS Word 1: No experience with the word program.

MS Word 2: A beginner in the Word program with some experience.

Word 3: Experience with the MS Word program; continuation of basic class.

*NEW* Microsoft Word Tbl, Charts+: This class is dedicated to learning Tables, Charts and Bullet Lists.

*NEW* Microsoft Word Adv. Docx ( Advanced Documents): This class is dedicated to learning Word Art, Clip Art, Watermarks, Drop Caps, Comments, Page Numbers, Headers & Footers, Comments, Hyperlinks, Research, Proofing and MORE!

Microsoft Excel 1: Introduction to Excel. It will cover the basic vocabulary, functions and various smaller abilities of the spreadsheets.

*NEW* Microsoft Excel Business Office Skills: Understanding Formulas & functions, Using Sorts, Filters, Comments and Protecting your work.

*NEW* Microsoft Excel Finance: This a "mathematics" and formula class for those who are interested in using the program to keep track of personal and small business finances.

*NEW* Microsoft Excel Data Table: This class will teach students to define names and use them in formulas, use look ups functions and validate data.

 
Microsoft Access  

Students will learn to create a table and define fields in a new database; change the structure of tables and add a 2nd table; create/use query, form and reports; create a database from a template and to save and close a database.

User name and password required. Your user name and password will be mailed to you after your Orientation class. Please bring them with you to each class and when you use the open lab. If you do not have your user name and password lab access will be prohibited.
