Upward Bound Program
Upward Bound is funded by the United States Department of Education to help high school students from low income and/or first generation families pursue and attain a college education.
We serve students in the 9th or 10th grade from Independence, Fort Osage and Raytown High Schools.
Free services provided to Upward Bound participants include:
- Instruction and tutoring in Math, Science, English, Social Studies and Foreign Language
- Enrichment classes that promote good study habits, communication and critical thinking skills
- Monthly cultural, educational and recreational activities
- Career, academic and personal counseling
- Assistance with choosing the right college
- Assistance finding financial aid for college
- A six week summer program that prepares students for the coming school year
- College classes (up to six credit hours) at the Metropolitan Community College upon graduating high school.
